A homestead exemption offers homeowners the chance to save on their tax bill. Here’s how they work.

Selling your home? Get a home valuation.

Buying a home? Search the local MLS.

Today we’re talking about homestead exemptions. Basically, it’s an opportunity for homeowners to save on their taxes.

If you purchased a home in 2018, you’ll have the ability to get a discount on your tax bill. Most people will escrow their property taxes into their mortgage payment, so once they’re able to get that reduction on their property taxes, the monthly mortgage payment will go down as well.

"You have until April 1 to submit your application."

You may need to provide your Warranty Deed book and page, proof of residence, social security number, driver’s license, and car tag info. In most counties, to be eligible for the current year, you must have owned and occupied the property as of January 1. If the property is located within city limits, you may be required to file with the city as well.

You have until April 1 to submit your application. We’ve put together a list of all the different counties in Metro Atlanta and where you can file for your homestead exemption for each respective county. Email us at clientcare@pazirealestate.com with “Homestead” in the subject line and we’ll send it out to you.
